So when Theron had snuck Sapir into spire, he had no clue just how difficult it would be to hide her because Neanderthals have very specific facial features; they're very bulbous, very protruding and her facial features are very soft as most Israeli people have softer features. A lot of Middle Eastern women have soft features!
So when Theron took her into his home, he did not really have time not to notice the stairs from the neighbors because they were looking at her and they knew she was a homosapien.
The neighbors were literally saying "that is not a Neanderthal, that is an Israeli."
Now you are probably wondering "do they not like Jewish people?" That's not really the case.
They're not anti-Semitic, the issue is that it was his legal for any Homo Sapien to move into spire because they knew that if they allowed Homo sapiens to move to spire, those Homo sapiens would get married to Neanderthals which would cause the Neanderthal race to be interpret leading to the breeding out of the race again.
This is how people believe they went extinct the first time and they don't want it to happen again.
And Thus, the neighbors while they kept quiet because it was just one Homo Sapien, they didn't think it would be that big of a deal; they were considering reporting her to the government because they noticed that this Homo Sapien was living within Neanderthal of the opposite sex.
Most of them decided to mind their own business and not report her again because it was just one Homo Sapien and they were like "what harm could she do to the species genealogically?" This is because most of them had engaged in arranged marriages, and the government, due to the illegality of Neanderthals marrying outside of their species, would never marry a Homo Sapien and a Neanderthal together.
However, most of the older Neanderthals were concerned because they told their younger ones, "Just because they're not married doesn't mean they're not able to have sex. They could fully have sex and produce a child because sex is just the human version of mating."
As per usual, there was another arranged marriage. Now remember at this time only four neanderthals were unmarried. Two females and two males.
Normally these two females would be married to these two males, but due to a clerical slip up, this didn't occur in the early sets as there were so many Neanderthals that of course a few droplets had fallen out of the bottle.
Thus, a man named Chloric was actually being arranged to marry a divorcee. What happened was one of the Neanderthal couples had increased the population -- he had his fifth child. Unfortunately for this divorcee, however, this fifth child was not spurned with her... Whom of which was his wife.
Diana and James had been married as a Neanderthal couple for a whole of 10 years until James cheated on Diana with Samantha, the wife of Damien, whom of which were another Neanderthal couple with four children.
Diana was heartbroken and had decided to divorce James and split the four children; two for her and two for James.
This led to Diana being arranged to marry someone else.
Now, the situation was peculiar because the government had noticed that Diana and James’s children were the biological children of Diana and James, whereas Samantha and Damien’s children were the biological children of Samantha and Damien. This meant they were not related through step-siblinghood, adoption, biological relation, or even foster siblinghood. However, they were all related to one singular child, whom Samantha had named Patrice; she was a girl.
They all shared one sibling, but Diana’s children were not biologically or systemically related to Samantha’s other children. The only child they were related to was Patrice. Patrice was related to Diana’s children and to Samantha’s other children, but Samantha’s children were not related to Diana’s other children. As a result, Patrice had eight siblings, whereas Diana’s children had three siblings, and Samantha’s children had three siblings aside from Patrice.
This meant that those children were in no way related to each other, but one child was related to them all. The government was worried about the situation because they wanted marriages to be exclusive and permanent, but they could not force someone to stay with an adulterous partner, especially since the adulterous partner had already cheated outside the marriage. The government wanted to create separate family units so that each family would have children who were not related to the children of other families.
The complication that arose was that, normally, if two couples were friends or had known each other, the government would legally arrange a marriage between their children so that the children could marry each other later. This was especially common when each couple had multiple children of opposite sexes. They never did this if none of the children were of opposite sexes, but at least one child would usually be paired.
However, Diana had four daughters, and Samantha had four sons by Damien, with only one child—a girl—by Diana’s husband James. This alarmed the authorities, as they wondered whether cases like this indicated a genetic issue, such as an inability to produce a diverse gender distribution among offspring.
They eventually formed an idea that was controversial in the country, even to this day. They decided that since the children of Diana and James and the children of Samantha and Damien were neither biologically nor systemically related, they would arrange marriages between them. Many members of the public opposed this decision because, although the children were not directly related, they all shared one singular sibling: Patrice. People questioned whether that connection still counted as a familial relationship.
Biologically, however, DNA testing would not identify those children as siblings. The only child who would ever count as a sibling to all of them was Patrice. She was the sole biological link between the families.
Because Patrice was the only biological link, the government ruled that the other children could be married to each other. They arranged marriages between Samantha’s sons and Diana’s daughters, but Patrice could not marry any of them and would have to be arranged to marry someone outside the family. Cousin marriage was not legal either.
The people were unhappy with the marriages not only because the children shared a sibling, although they were somewhat more lax about that, since technically Diana’s four children were not related to Samantha’s four sons, and Diana was not related to Patrice in any way. Technically, Samantha had five children—one daughter and four sons. However, people were upset because this situation existed due to Diana’s husband having slept with Samantha.
This created contention between the families, meaning the government was arranging 4 marriages between families that already had existing conflict.
At the moment, Samantha was going through a divorce with Damien, and the children were being split by 2 between Damien and Samantha.
Two for Damien, 2 for Samantha, well, technically, three for Samantha because Damian was not going to take Samantha's daughter as Patrice wasn't his child. They found this out through a DNA test...
But that doesn't really matter much now, now does it? Because we're not focusing on those little kids marriage, we are focusing on the marriage between Diana and Chloric!
The government, to keep the Neanderthal race going, decided to marry Diana and Chloric together.
Due to the normalization of arranged marriages as acceptable and necessary for the Neanderthal race to persist and the safest possible way, even though love marriages were fully allowed and in fact preferred because if you loved each other that meant you would have more sex and so if they did find that someone in an arranged marriage was actually genuinely in love with somebody else, and not willing to marry the partner they are arranged with, like an engagement to be married but it's like not official especially, they will actually marry you to the other person like they'll change who you're arranged to be married with to the person you're in love with to boost sex.
The only time this won't happen is if that person is infertile And no one in this colony was infertile.
Meanwhile, the other partner is giving counseling if they actually loved the person they were arranged with in the case of a complication, and then they are arranged to marry somebody else.
But back to my original point, due to the normalization of arranged marriages as acceptable and necessary for the species, Chloric and Diana had no issue with being married.
So they were inviting people to the wedding because it was seen as a celebratory event that would continue the species and Diana already had four children whereas Chloric had none.
So it was seen as even more celebratory because this would be granting someone more kids.
As a result, Theron and Sapir were invited due to being friends with Diana.
This situation wasn't a terrible situation, but at the same time... Diana had only really spoken to Sapir over the phone. And while she knew her voice sounded like a homo sapien, it wasn't impossible for their voices to sound like a homo sapien.
Once Theron had brought Sapir to the wedding, Diana and Chloric had realized something...
"That's not a Neanderthal," Diana said stunned and uttered.
"It's none of our business," Chloric said.
The thing about Chloric is that he is a self-racist like many of the people in Spire. Thus, when Sapir spoke, it was revealed that she was Israeli.
Here's where self-racism comes in.
Chloric was immediately attuned to the racism against Neanderthals in America, VERY attuned. They denied him jobs, called him stupid, didn't trust him around their friends & family, were shocked that he knew how to speak perfect English and got straight A's, leading to accusations of cheating, but he even excelled in slow classes.
He excelled in the slow classes at the same rate of a person who had no mental illness. This confused all of his teachers. They kept telling him "He couldn't be a Neanderthal because he was too intelligent and normal," which is what they told his parents and each other and the other students.
Many accused him of being evil because, technically, since white people were found to have around 3% of Neanderthal DNA, a lot of people came to the conclusion that the reason white people had ancestors who were cruel was because those ancestors had that small 3% of Neanderthal DNA.
So when he fled America to Israel, where they basically gave him his own country in a way... Like a place he could stay being underneath the rule of Lukas, of course...
Although he did Excel, he did feel that if another race of people, especially a discriminated against race, had bred with his species, because this is also what they taught in the country of spire, he felt that other people would discriminate against those races leading to extreme racism to another race if a hybrid child is found.
So, the concept of an Israeli person dating a Neanderthal, in his mind, was this:
“That is the dumbest thing you could ever do. Why would you ever date a Neanderthal? If they find out that you’re dating a Neanderthal and you have a child, they’re going to use that child to discriminate against Israeli people. That child’s life is going to be full of suffering, because not only will the child be used as false evidence that Israelis are part Neanderthal, but the child will also be abused for being Jewish and abused for being partly Neanderthal.
You have not only ruined your child’s lineage and life by having a baby with a Neanderthal, but you have also subjected your child to a much higher likelihood of negative effects from COVID-19. You have subjected your child to a life of discrimination. You have subjected your child to a life where medications might not even work for him the way they work for Homo sapiens, because everything was built for the Homo sapien race, since they were the only race left on Earth.
But you just had to go and breed with a Neanderthal, causing your child to be discriminated against not only for being Jewish but also for being a Neanderthal. People will see our race of Neanderthals as an embarrassment to the Jewish race. This would be considered an embarrassment. This child would be considered a point of shame, because he would be seen as the entire reason discrimination would come upon the entire race.”
These are all the thoughts that Chloric had because Chloric never met her in person either, they knew each other over the phone.
The thing is Chloric doesn't hate Neanderthals; most of the race doesn't hate Neanderthals. The Neanderthals think just like this about the subject, but they do not hate each other or themselves. This is just how they genuinely think; This is what they were taught was the right and best way to think.
The thing with the Neanderthal race is that it’s not that they view their race as lesser; they view their race as embarrassing.
The issue is that people have treated them poorly, and because of this, what they believe is that if they mix with a different race—like a Black person, a Mexican person, etc.—it will cause that race to be treated poorly through their child as a result. It’s not that they view themselves negatively or believe any of the negative stereotypes about Neanderthals, but they know that other people believe those negative stereotypes about Neanderthals, and this would lead them to say, “Let’s just stay within our race.”
They believe that breeding outside their race would cause other races to be discriminated against, and that they also have to stay within their own race. They think, "how are we going to produce pures of our race if we don’t?"
There was also a strong belief that Israeli people were a sacred race, and in a way, because of the negative stigma attached to Neanderthals, there existed a situation where many of them—not most, but many—held a very discreet form of internalized racism.
These people held ideologies such as this: if someone were to say that Jesus Christ was a Neanderthal, the entire group would turn against that person. Since this group was Christian, they would react very strongly—metaphorically pulling out pitchforks and knives. They would not become physically violent, but they would verbally attack the person.
This reaction was understandable because it was based on what people believed about Neanderthals. If someone were to make such a statement, they would assume the person was saying it to insult God by using their race as an insult, which would make it far more offensive. They would label that person racist.
However, even if someone genuinely believed this and it came from a place without malicious intent, they would still feel extremely offended. In the back of their minds, there was an instinctive, ingrained ideology that associating someone with Neanderthals in this context implicitly meant saying that person was lesser or worthless. Because of this internal belief, they concluded that a Jew should never marry a Neanderthal, believing that the Jewish race was so important and valuable—especially to God—that mixing it with Neanderthal blood would be a disgrace to the race.
The situation was where While most didn't view themselves as worth any less than a homo sapien the few were like we're not worth any less we're fine but...
But if you had brought up these two case scenarios like "Oh, a Jewish person is going to marry a Neanderthal!" They'll be like "You'll embarrass the Jewish race by marrying our kind!" or if someone said "God was a Neanderthal" they're like "how dare you say God is lesser?!"
They would definitely oppose the Neanderthal/Jewish marriage; Which basically means they would oppose the marriage between Neanderthal and a Jew.
The Neanderthal race also believed that God would be affected by humanity’s perceptions of Him, to the point that His mindset could become so influenced that merely mentioning Him in relation to their species would cause great offense.
They believed that if you mistook Jesus for a Denisovan, God would not be offended and would simply correct you, and they themselves would not be offended either. However, if you ever stated that He was one of their own species, they would respond with intense verbal vitriol.
At times, they tried to hold back because they did not want to be overly harsh, especially if the statement came from ignorance. Sometimes they would restrain their reaction and attempt to politely correct the person, but they would always emphasize that such a claim was deeply offensive to the Lord.
Some people found this particularly offensive during arguments because they believed that ancient species had only gone extinct due to the flood and that they were Nephilim. To them, calling God one of those beings was equivalent to calling Him a demon.
