Tail-Likes | Chapter 4 | Life in Vernice

Let's start reading:

Once upon this time…

A wide field of tall grass stretches under the open sky, the blades whispering softly whenever the wind passes through.

Scattered across the green are clusters of wild rose bushes, their blossoms a gentle, bright pink that almost look delicate against the rugged landscape. But the beauty hides something harsher.

The rose stems are thick, brown, tall, and covered in dense, vicious thorns that jut out in every direction like tiny spikes. They look menacing, forming straight barriers out of the bushes.

Getting too close would be a mistake—those thorns are sharp, stabbing, and unforgiving. The flowers may look soft and welcoming, but the stems warn clearly: this is not a plant that God meant to be touched

"The Islands should have been burned to rubble," said Karia as she was playing with the deer, she always loved playing with doe deer.

Alexander sat in the fields of prickly, wild, hot pink Rosa acicularis roses and said "Both islands are former naval submarine bases.  Guess who had the submarines?  Ghizlane Maxwell."

Karia asked "Why did America give up two former naval submarine bases?"

Karia looks around and says "Why is the only place we can chill amidst these scary ahh thorns?"

Alexander took a perch around with his blue irises and said "I think it's because they're so thorny no rapist would come here."

Alexander then decides that since he forgot to go back and get that job he was offered, he'd carefully pick the fruits of those roses and Karia says "Um... You can't... Well... I don't have the internet to see if they're edible."

Alexander says "After the showy pink flowers bloom in June and July, the fruit develop into red berries called rose hips. The red berries are best picked and eaten when they are ripe in August and September."

Karia says "So... They're edible?" 

Alexander nodded, saying, "When I was back in my hometown, I looked it up. Yeah..."

Karia says "I don't like the name in conjunction with what this island is."

Things got awkwardly silent for a stale 50 seconds, and Alexander angrily spat "Why did you have to ruin it?! This was supposed to be sweet!"

Once upon that time…

Karia started to help Alexander carefully grab the fruit, she grabbed the base, while he grabs the fruit, and he just yanks it off the wild rose.

And every day…

They'd come back and start picking the fruit off the roses carefully. They would make pies and take the seeds and grow them in the yard and while Alexander forgot he could read a book to learn like Karia, Karia just remembered! Just now, I mean.

Thus, Karia used those books to help Alexander The Great Perkins grow the fruit to make a mighty Rose Hips Pie.

Until one day…

The neighbors looked at them and stared them down all weird. They primarily looked at Alexander The Great Perkins. The women whispered among each other "Him picking rose hips reminds me of those traffickers."

Hearing the whispers, Alexander got confused; He was literally picking fruit off roses. Alexander then continued to pick Rose Hips with Karia for pies.

When he went home, he saw Mateo was out of the hospital, so he locked all his doors! Mateo, however, saw Karia smiling while filling the pie with crushed rose hips, looking at Alexander with these confused, squinted eyes.

Karia asks "Why are you locking the windows?"

Alexander keeps yelling "I keep forgetting to lock the doors!" • Karia says "Oh... Well... Uh..." She had nothing to say and she just pulled out seeds and put them in a jar.

Alexander shouts "The guy that stabbed me is outside!"

Kariai replied "He is? Why'd you stab him in the first place, though?" She asked Alexander, being awkward.

Alexander says "I just got scared because he'd follow me and then one day he just grabs my collar and yanks me and I thought he was a trafficker and I stabbed him!"

And because of this…

Karia looked out the window saying "I... Okay, I'll go outside and tell him to leave." She was scared, of course, but she didn't want Alexander to get hurt.

Alexander, surprised, shouts "Are you insane? You're a woman, he's like... Fat! He'll just kidnap you & rape you or something!" Mateo is not a sex trafficker or rapist. Alexander & Karia do not know this. They do know it is possible, though. They do not see it as a strong possibility.

Karia awkwardly said "I know a lot of women are weaker than a lot of guys... But... Hmmm..." then She realized she was no different, and said "Okay, never mind..."

They're both quite skinny, no muscle on either of them.

Alexander frantically says "I don't know how to fight that well! I only had one day of karate class!"

Karia paused for 5 seconds of fear and replied "I honestly have no idea what I'm gonna do, either."

Alexander says "I don't have a phone to call the police thanks to this stupid government not letting us have one!" Frustrated and terrified.

Karia nodded, she was fully aware of this. She just swifted back to baking, awkward. She didn't know what else to do. The doors were locked, so... She thought there was nothing she could do. These are awkward 18-year-olds...

And because of this…

Mateo walked away. Mateo had not finished surveilling the new creature known as Alexander, but he'd seen enough to know the two are oddballs in his eyesight.

Alexander had his pupils fixated on Mateo the whole time Mateo trotted away.

Mateo panted and sat on the floor while Karia was using cardboard as a makeshift pie pot; This was the typical material they used for pie pots. They didn't have any money to buy anything else.

Karia put it in the oven and said "One day, we'll get a job and furniture! You hope so, too, Alexander?" Hands on her rosy hips gleaming at the rose hips pie in the oven.

Karia looks back at an Alexander panting and Rocking back & forth. He's having a panic attack from the trauma of being attacked.

Until finally…

Alexander ran up to his empty room as his apartment room 222 only had one floor that belonged to the room itself, not stairs or anything and was on the first floor. The apartment in Total had 17 floors.

Alexander locked the privacy lock on his door, he panted and reamed, bit his clothes lightly, rubbed his neck where the scars sees.

Alexander hears whispers, hallucinations of the room closing in, his body slumped to the floor up against the wall.

And ever since that day…

Alexander kept his doors locked. Alexander never forgot to do so. He'd walk down the path outside the next day, seeing neighbors ignore the newcomer and jeer at him as he went to pick oranges from the trees.

His tail would swing around, accidentally grazing against trees, slapping bushes clumsily, incidentally pricking itself with thorns from roses it snapped.

Suddenly, to water the roses, God sent a thunder storm. The Lord heated the land, had it evaporate the water in the ocean slightly so that only a small amount of water is taken up, then he did the same to the dirt on the island and had it's dust rise with the water droplets into the sunrise.

After combining the two, the clouds blocked the sun's rise and rain & thunder hit the Earth. God watered the flowers, and struck down a couple of rocky areas with the lightning, burning the leaves of nearby bushes only to put the flames out with his rain.

Christ was taking his anger out on Epstein Island for what happened on it.

Alexander felt himself drenched as he had no umbrella. Alexander was worried he'd get a cold — He'll get a cold. Lightning & Thunder roared as God patiently observed the spectacle known as "the tailed ones" as the Heavens put it.

Alexander flared out the webs at the end of his tail, but it was so small that rain still hit him when he used it as a shield, causing the angels, humans with tails, and God to look in awe.

God was fascinated; more fascinated in him than the other tailed ones. Alexander's straight, short, black hair got straighter as the water ironed it down to his face.

Water's gettin' in Alexander's scleras as people look and whisper about how his tail is glowing white. Alexander shakes his body to shake off the rain, intentionally trying to shake like a dog, but he can't go fast enough to get the water off and he's still wet — Plus, it's still raining.

Karia heads outside her home with only her bra, pants, shoes & golden rubber band in her hair. She used her T-Shirt to block the rain. It failed due to the pores of her shirt. She is french drenched in the rain.

Karia ran to him trying to offer her failure of a makeshift umbrella to "keep" him dry.

Karia is laughing as she ran at him with the laugh of a latina — despite not being Latina.

Alexander was looking at her, uncomfortable, cold and Brit' drenched in the rain.

Drenched like a Brit' in the rain, Alexander got under her shirt and continues to be drenched despite. Alexander hugs Karia to get more under the shirt, raining pouring through it's pours onto them; It's not working.

The shirt is drenched like a Brit' on a normal rainy day — which is pretty much all day.

Karia says "I'm gonna get my ID, today!" • Alexander shouts "Got mine!" Then he flashes his ID for her, not knowing it's dangerous to do that. He's got such a big, stupid grin! They both do; it's adorable!

Suddenly, They both head inside of Karia's house screaming in terror because thunder just flashed and it was SCREAMING.

They sit near the windows — something you're not supposed to do in a lightning storm.

In the house, the electricity suddenly shut down and came back on, again. They didn't have to pay for electricity until they got a job — in which they'd have 3% of their earnings go to taxes, 4% go to the electric bill, and 5% go to the water bill... That's all the bills I know of. I feel like I'm forgetting others.

Karia says "This is chill. What do I say here?" • Alexander says "I think most people would talk, flirt or say nothing."

They're both awkward & confused as to what to do now. Karia has no furniture, so she's sittin' on the floor with him. They're trying to wrap up in his T-shirt, but it's not big enough to wrap around them both.

Alexander took it off just to use it to keep warm — he didn't even think to use It to dry themselves off. Not even Karia thought of that!

Karia asked "Why don't we just dry off with it?" And he paused for 18 seconds, and said "That makes more sense than what we're doing right now!"

Karia said "Wrapping ourselves in your shirt to keep warm isn't working since... Well... It's too small."

Karia's blue eyes starting looking around her house, she just realized that she forgot that she even intended to go find a job in the first place.

Karia said "I forgot to look for a job... You know where I can find a job!" Suddenly, Alexander The Great Perkins' brain flickered right on, he shouts "Yeah! This corner store wanted to hire me! I almost forgot it was a corner store, actually... I need more sleep... I think I have insomnia... I don't know how... I have nothing to do..."

God waited 3 minutes to allow the roses and trees to be nourished, then he started gradually pulling away the storm clouds and calming the lightning and hiding the thunder.

Karia & Alexander are still wet; They're developing a cold, actually. Karia says "Was using my sweater to keep us from getting rained on a bad idea?" • Alexander burst out laughing "Obviously! Hahahah!" His head jerking out, pouring over into laughter, and she found that funny, so she started laughing, too!

Karia got up and went to her stove and asked "Why do houses come with fridges?" • Alexander replies "Why shouldn't they?" Because how are you gonna keep the food fresh without a fridge?

Alexander's tail is slightly bleeding from the thorny roses. Alexander checks on it as Karia's clothes start to form a red in front of her pants.

No one noticed, but Karia felt weird... As if she was peeing herself. So, confused, she went to the bathroom to go pee. She took off her bottoms and saw in her undies actual blood!

Karia left her bathroom door open, forgetting to close it while Alexander was focused on using his shirt to bandage his tail. Alexander has no idea what Karia noticed was she's on her period.

Karia has no pad. So... She took off her bra and used it as a makeshift pad. She knows she can never use this bra, again. She has no other pants or panties because she had no job and no ID and no money...

So, Karia just kept those pants on. When Alexander took a glance up and saw it, his mouth dropped in panicked horror.

Alexander cries out "We don't have phones to call 911! Are you hemorrhaging!?" So, he grabs her and pulled her outside as she says "It's my moon bloOo0oOod!"

Alexander pulled her to the emergency and told them "She's hemorrhaging from downstairs!" And they took her in and found that it was just her menstrual cycle. Go figure...

Oops. 😬

Karia reassures Alexander that "It was just my moon blood, dude... Stop panicking, bruh..."

She's handed period pads and a change of clothes by the nurses while Alexander stood embarrassed & awkward. He was frozen.
